DVA -Development
Volunteers Africa
is a registered international NGO founded in 2003. The team
comprises social workers, community development specialists,
gender and human rights experts, journalists and researchers.
DVA has initiated, supported and implemented projects aimed
at improving the living conditions of women, children and
minority groups with a community based approach and the
participation of local and international volunteers.

MISSION
To empower community
groups, to provide innovative solutions to psycho/social/economic
challenges, to fight for human rights, gender equity and
acceptance of diversity; to fight violence against women
and children; to empower the disabled by giving them a chance
to take active part in development.
DVA
WORKS TOWARDS
•
Supporting community development, fighting for social
justice, reducing poverty and contributing to improve the
living conditions of women, children and minorities.
•
Building a self sustaining Kenyan network of women,
who will provide solidarity and support for one another,
possibly, ultimately setting up long lasting working groups.
•
Creating an activity centre and a space in which
the women can strengthen their status, develop self esteem,
be exposed to counseling, enhance their expressive, creative
and self help skills, find like minded women, opportunities,
training and encouragement to speak out and develop new
visions and strategies of life.
•
Providing good practice ideas and training to women's
group's leaders who will be able to carry out similar initiatives
in the future, thus starting a virtuous circle in the country.

Instigating research on women and minority issues.
•
Stimulating debates and discussions at all levels
of society to deepen understanding of gender and minority
issues in Kenya.

Producing publications and videos that gather, reflect
and disseminate the projects ideas and results.
•
Promoting the spirit of voluntarism through international
work camps and programs geared towards providing labor,
capacity building technical and advisory services to community
groups.
• Identify untapped sporting talent and encourage a women sporting culture in the slums,(Demystify the Kenyan notion that nothing good comes from the slum)encouraging girls to see sports as a means to enhance theirs self esteem, to conduct a healthier life style, to learn discipline and team work, to be active and positive about life.
